Chairperson of the Indonesian Psoriasis Study Group (KSPI) Dr. Endi Novianto, SpKK, FINSDV, FAADV mention there are several trigger factors for psoriasis (auto-immune disease that occurs due to the immune system that attacks healthy cells in the body). These trigger factors include psychological and physical stress.

"There are also caused by drugs such as high blood pressure medication or Piroxicam pain medication. Hidden infections are also not recognized as a cause of psoriasis. For example, cavities become a gathering place for germs. He also warned that lifestyles such as smoking, eating foods containing high fat or alcohol also triggered relapse of psoriasis.

Psoriasis treatment

New hope is emerging for psoriasis sufferers when a Rieder SA et al. Study published in 2010 states psoriasis may be cured with cannabinoids. This compound from the Cannabis / marijuana plant provides an anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effect on the body.

The way it works inhibits keratinocyte proliferation, namely active cell division in the main epidermal cells. It relieves inflammation and is potential for the treatment of psoriasis. Besides psoriasis, cannabinoids also play an immunosuppressive and anti-inflammatory role for multiple sclerosis, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, and asthma allergies.

In addition, there are several ways to treat psoriasis. For example by topical ointment, swollen (systemic), or irradiation using UVA & B rays. However, there are only a few hospitals in Indonesia that provide UVA & B radiation treatment because of the large costs. Another treatment option is to use monoclonal antibody with oral therapy.

Oral therapy is considered relatively effective compared to other methods. Clinical trials in 2016 were conducted in two groups of psoriasis patients with 898 people. The first group of 572 people were treated with alcohol. The remaining 326 were given etanercept treatment.

For 52 weeks the results of clinical trials concluded that secukinumab was more effective than etanercept in relieving psoriasis. However, all of these treatments only help to relieve symptoms of the disease and not cure it. At any time this disease can arise again.
